Thanks Frances, Lucy for your comments.
Yes, I guess Amalfi will have to wait for another trip to Italy.
What we are planning (so far) is 3-4 days in Venice (& islands), 3-4
days Florence (& maybe Sienna) & 3-4 days Cinque Terre. In that
order since we fly to Venice and fly out of Milan.
We want to spend enough time in each of these areas. I am in love w/
Venice and we've been looking at pictures of Cinque Terre for years
so we are probably spending a little more time in each place than
most people would (but you should see how much time my husband spends
I was hoping to stay in Vernazza in Cinque Terre, but I know it is
touristy and it may be hard to find a hotel there.
Can we travel by train where we are going? Where do I go to find out
more about trains? How do I buy tickets? Buy tickets here, or there?
Also, any recommendations for hotels? How do I make reservations?
Should I use a travel agent?
I thought about going on tour w/ Rick Steves, but after joining this
group, I got excited about independent travel.
I am also interested in local tours in Venice and/or Florence. Have
you done that before?
