|Subject: Help with London to Scotland then back to Paris.|
Last year my bride was wonderful enough to let me take a break from our golden
triangle trip in Italy to go to Sicily to find my roots high in the hillside town of
Corleone so I want to return the favor this year and get to Eileen Donan.
So, I am looking for the best way to do this: We want to leave London by train on a Friday and go to Fort William in Scotland. Spend the night there or somewhere else in the vicinity so we can get to Eileen Donan Castle, my bride's ancestral home, on Saturday. We would spend the day there, then back to Fort William or possibly Glasgow or Edinburgh, spend Sunday there and return to London the next day taking a train through the Chunnel and on to Paris on Monday.
Does anyone (Carol? You were the only one who responded on our previous post on Eileen Donan) know if this is doable? Do you think we should rent a car in Fort William or will be able to get public transport to Loch Duich where the castle is? If we do rent a car how would driving in Scotland compare in difficulty to driving in Palermo, which I did last year and survived? If we do get a car, should we rent it here before we go? Lastly, is it outlandish to think we can go from Glasgow or Edinburgh to Paris in one day via train?
Much thanks in advance for the always valuable Ziner advice.
