|Subject: Alaska Marine Highway ferry or cruise ship?|
We lived in Alaska many moons ago and then the 'inside tip' was to book a stateroom, take the ferry from Seattle or Prince Rupert up to Juneau or Skagway, and make your own tour of Southeast Alaska. The food was good and you got to meet lots of local Alaskans. We're thinking about a trip to SE Alaska next May (late) or June and wondered if the ferry was still a good idea. We know the weather will be dicey (what else is new?) but wondered if anyone had taken the ferry recently. The large cruise ships don't seem that appealing to us but we've never taken one since we're more interested in scenery, kayaking or exploring than in entertainment in the evenings. (this may be an erroneous judgment!) Any advice, Ziners?
