As our resident virtual expert in things Central American, I've got another question for you. In April, I'll be volunteering with Cascade Medical Team as interpreter & triage manager during a 10-day medical clinic in the village of Solala, Guatemala. I must go down with the group (we are 50 docs & nurses, plus 8 cooks & support volunteers & 2 interpreters) as we all haul medical equipment & supplies which we leave at the clinic site till next year. But after the clinic, we're free to scatter. I've thot to go overland to the highlands of Belize (perhaps Blancaneaux Lodge or Chaa Creek in the Cayo district) for some hiking, birding & ruins exploration, & thence up the coast overland again to the Yucatan, stopping at Sian Ka'an and Playa Lagartos, then fly back to Oregon from Cancun. I will, of course, be traveling solo & light. Is is a feasible plan? If not, I could just fly back the the states from Belize City. Gail |
