Subject: CT from inland?

visiting the Cinque Terre or Portovenere from inland Tuscany isn't advised, because of logistics. Even going from Lerici to Portovenere, just across the gulf, can take the best part of one hour because of the roads. The railway line runs along the coast so, if you're well inland, you need to change trains to get there. That's the typical situation in which you can't have two different things at the same time: for the coast, plan to stay in Lerici or Portovenere and use the boats/train while Siena and surrondings are better seen by car.
