Subject: Re: Vancouver to Ambergris Caye |
Hello, Terry:
Ambergris Caye is a delightful, quiet island, best enjoyed by walking. In May, the weather should be fine, hot at midday, but with off-shore winds cooling the evening. In any case, mozzie repellant is essential for that 5-7pm hour when they are voracious. The beaches are lovely, but snorkeling right from the shore is challenging due to the turtle grass that stretches for some distance across the shallow water. You would need a boat to get out to the best waters for snorkeling. Looking over the boats for hire before booking is a good idea. For solitude I like Mata Rocks, at a distance from the little village, with kitchenettes. Ramon's Village is closer to the village, but I recall that most of the thatched-roof bungalows had rather steep steps up into the living area. http://www.matarocks.com/index.htm http://www.ramons.com/ I loved taking a boat trip to Shark Alley, diving with nurse sharks, & going on to Caye Caulker for a lazy day.
