The famous one is the restaurant located in the Wollzeile. Another classic is the Griechenbeisl, also in the City (thatīs what the Old Town is called): http://www.griechenbeisl.at/ (english version at the bottom). Their Tafelspitze (a favourite of Franz Josef) is quite good.

And regarding cakes and coffee places ... tell her to avoid the Cafe Sacher. Too expensive. If I was going only to two or three places, I would make it the Cafe Hawelka, the Cafe Central and maybe the Prckel or the Braunerhof ...
