Subject: Re: Skiing near Paris?
Hi Sheryl,

I donīt know exactly when do you celebrate Presidentīs week, and that could help in order to know if the ski resorts are opened or if it is during the white week ( a particularly busy period of the year in February, when the french schools get the week off so that the children go skiing).

And now ... near Paris ... thatīs kind of difficult. If you can spend a couple of days, you could get a TGV down to Lyon, Grenoble or Chambery, and then change to a TER to get you near your selected ski resort. For example, Paris-Chamonix takes two changes, one at Lyon and another at Saint-Gervais, and the travelling time will more than 6 hours. The best way of travelling would be by car.

I think Chamonix is a beautiful place, but unless your grand-daughter has been skiing since very young, the slopes are quite advanced. A lovely village near Chamonix is called Les Contamines-Mont Joie http://www.lescontamines.com/ , and it could be nice. Another place that could be much better are the Three Valleys resorts : http://www.les3vallees.com/uk/index.php . You can find there places like Courchevel, Les Menuires or Val Thorens, and they might be easily reachable via the train, thanks to the Moûtiers train station.

France has lots of ski resorts, as you can see in the Ski France official site : http://www.skifrance.fr/ http://www.france-4-ski.com/

The Pyrenees are way too far (although you could fly into Pau or Tarbes), but they have a very good offer for families

And it seems that this year the snow is arriving earlier :))
