|Subject: Re: Islands|
Islands are indeed special. We used the Cadogan series of books one
year for a trip to the islands of Italy and have become converts.
They are well researched and very informative. We used our first book to visit Sardinia and had a wonderful week there. Among other Italian islands from the book that we enjoyed were Capri, Stromboli and Sicily. Many years ago we ferry-tripped along the eastern fringe of Greece visiting Rhodes, Kos, Patmos and Samos.
We went to Koh Samui in Thailand after two weeks of travelling in the East because we were tired and jet lag finally caught up with us. Did our laundry, caught up on our sleep and generally enjoyed ourselves in a very Apocalypse Now atmosphere. It was a sad and bizarre situation. The Thai people continue to depend on tourism created from the war in Viet Nam and cater to the prurient interests of the West. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay on the island which is owned by the sister of the King of Thailand. No buildng can be higher than the highest palm tree on the island.
However the most interesing island that we have visited is Australia. I don't know where to begin in describing how wonderful this country is to visit. It is big, it is beautiful and Austrialians will welcome you as if you are long lost family.
