Hi Megan!
My husband & I spent two nights in Murren at the very end of
May
last year. The weather was fine - pants, short sleeves and a
light
jacket. Our intent was to take the cable car up to Schiltorn
then
hike back down but there was still snow at the higher elevations
and
it was suggested that we not walk down without proper footwear
(snowshoes, real hiking boots?) Instead, my husband took a tandem paragliding trip down from the top of Schiltorn into Stechelburg (I know I'm mispelling these names...my notes aren't nearby) and I took the cable car back down. I can certainly recommend the place we stayed in Murren...it was the Chalet Fontana - located in the middle of the village, just across the street from the grocery, bank and restaurants. It was a nice central location allowing us to walk to Gimmelwald, take the cable car down to Stechelburg, walk to Trummelbach Falls then continue on to Lauterbrunnen and take the funicular back up to Murren. I liked staying in Murren as opposed to Lauterbrunnen just because the views were so nice. We had dinner one evening on a patio and it was so quiet that you could hear the waterfalls throughout the valley - so nice! I'm sure your parents will love the area wherever they choose to stay!
