Hi Penny and Ziners-
We spent a couple of weeks in Sicily this past year in
rented villas, one outside Siracusa and one outside
Palermo. Since you won't have a car, I highly recommend
Palermo where there is much to see and a car is a total
pain (the street are clogged and there is no place to
park). Palermo can only be enjoyed on foot or using public
transport. We always felt safe, but only saw a fraction of
what we wanted to see because of having a car and the
frustrations that arose from it. I'm not aware of any
discount airlines flying to Sicily, but the train service
from the mainland is good.
Regards from cold Wisconsin,
Miles
