Pat's telling of the time she had mandarin oranges in her backpack and ate them, but the airport beagle could tell, reminds me of an incident like that.
I was at the San Diego airport in the waiting area, eating my breakfast from my carry-on. Later, a security woman came in with a beagle, who started sniffing everybody's carry-ons. When they got to mine, he was all over it and sniffing away. The woman smiled and asked if I'd had any food in there, and when I said yes, she told me that he can always sniff it out. He was so cute, and she let me pet him.
