Subject: Siem Reap, Cambodia - Angkor Wat and Angkor
Hello all -

For an absolute and incredible place to see if you're interested in historical ruins, is Angkor Wat and Angkor Tom - Wat being the temple and Tom being the city - in Siem Reap Cambodia.

Even though the ruins were originally built in the 13th century and not nearly as old as those we saw during our stay in Sicily, there're probably among the most impressive ruins we've ever seen.

I think it would be so very worthwhile to go there if visiting Thailand or Vietnam because it really isn't that far from either country. We stayed at the Royal Crown Hotel and you can check it out on the web at:

It's extraordinarily clean and quite new. The photographs on their web site do not in any way compliment how very nice the rooms are. A twin deluxe, which is what we had is $60 which includes a served breakfast. Also, the people at this hotel couldn't have been nicer, in fact probably the nicest during our entire Southeast Asian trip.

Our tour guide was excellent and she spoke very good English. Her name is:Le Pon Heary and her e-mail address is:

She charges $25 for a full day of sightseeing, excluding a few hours in the afternoon at lunch time when the heat is at its worst and she provides a practically brand new car with air conditioning and a very nice driver which will costs an additional $25 per day. She will pick you up at the airport at no additional charge and if you run into any problems, she will be there in a second to help you out.

She helped us out tremendously when the hotel which we selected from the Internet turned out to be just awful. She and her driver were there within (hadn't even eaten breakfast) 10 minutes of our call and took us to the Royal Crown Hotel. She was worth her weight in gold and more by helping us out in this situation.

She does run a guest house with the assistance of her family members as well as being a tour guide, but we preferred to stay at a hotel. But if you're interest in staying at a guest house you can e-mail her for the details and I know she does have a web site which you can ask her to direct you to.

I hope this information can be of help and if you have any other questions, I'd be more than glad to help if I can.

Happy traveling, Rose - Los Angeles
