|Subject: Re: Euro vs Dollar|
I usually bring a couple of days' worth of local currency, a few American bills (people usually know US exchange rate but not Canadian!), credit cards (my husband and I carry different ones for safety) and our ATM cards. He also uses his credit card as an ATM card. The US money is just my security blanket. I also keep some local currency as spare. We did have a problem in 1995 when in Cologne. The whole system broke down one day and we couldn't get more cash and couldn't pay by credit card (if I remember correctly). The restaurant accepted payment with a variety of currencies! The problem was short-lived - all was well the next day.
