|Subject: Priceline room in Europe|
To Russell and other ziners.
I did use Priceline for a room in London for the last week in June 2004. We got the Hilton Metropole on the Edgeware Road. It looks like it is close to Kensington Gardens, and very close to the Marble Arch. I bid $75 for a 4 star hotel and this is what we got. I've done hotels with charm and I think that I prefer comfort, A/C if it is beastly like it was last summer. It is a large, convention hotel, but you can't beat the price, the location is quite good, and the rooms look nicely appointed. Fairly good reviews on tripadvisor.com.
For Paris, where we are going first, we are staying at the Melia Confort Francois (3 Rue Montmarte) which is a 3 star hotel which looks like it has charm and amenities. It is close to the Opera. We stayed in many Melia hotels (a large Spanish chain) in Spain last summer and in Mexico. We have been very pleased with those hotels. We got this hotel on the solmelia website for 105 euros which includes breakfast. We are staying for a week in each place so I think that it is important to be comfortable. Will report when we return.
We have not been to London and Paris for 34 years so if anyone has any suggestions of things that we should not miss that are comparatively new, I would appreciate knowing about them. Is a day trip to Giverney doable? Also any other day trips. We did go to Cambridge, Hampton Court, Winsor Castle, etc. when we were there before. In Paris, we went to Versaille but I am hard pressed to remember if did any other side trips there.
Hope that this information is helpful and I look forward to your suggestions.
