Subject: Re: Planning - need some help regarding Canada
Graziella, Driving across Canada will take some time. It's about 3000 miles from Toronto to Vancouver. It will take you about two days just to get from Toronto to Winnipeg and then you have to drive across the Prairies and over the mountains to get to British Columbia. So, while you will see a lot, you will be in your car for many hours of each day. Train travel in this country is expensive but you won't have hotel costs for the days when you are crossing Canada.

My suggestion would be to spend a week in the Toronto area, fly from Toronto to Calgary and then drive across the mountains to Vancouver.

You could easily take a week to do this by stopping off in places such as Banff, Jasper, Revelstoke, Kamloops and Kelowna. The Okanagan Valley in British Columbia can occupy two days. Then you'll have some time for Vancouver and could take the ferry to Vancouver Island for a day or so.

WestJet offers reasonable fares and Air Canada generally has seat sales. It's about a three hour flight from Toronto to Calgary.

Check out VIA Rail for train information.

Good luck with your planning. Lucy, Toronto
