Subject: Re: Priceline room in Europe/now daytrips to Paris
Hi, Michele... A day trip to Giverny is easily doable. We went to both Versailles and Giverny in one day -- Giverny in the morning and Versailles in the afternoon -- but we booked a tour through Paris Vision They did a very nice tour... we had a great guide, and we stopped at a lovely auberge for lunch -- it was part of the package. Our guide was very knowledgeable about Versailles, and that added to our enjoyment. However, she wasn't really around much in Giverny, and I think it would be just as good on your own.... maybe even better, as you'd have time to explore the town and have lunch. I believe it's not too difficult to book a train to Giverny yourself. We'd intended to, but it was Easter, so when we went to buy our train tickets, the ticket window was closed.

Another nice day trip is to Chartres.

We did Chartres on our own, and that was approximately an hour trip from the Gare Montparnasse. You can take a tour of the town, on a little train, which goes along the Eure River....it leaves from right behind the cathedral. It's really a lovely town. If you should decide to go to Chartres, be sure and take one of Malcolm Miller's tours. He was wonderful...his knowledge of the cathedral is incredible!
