Subject: Re: Paris - Cafe's and neighborhoods - seeking recommendations
Hi Paul,

I spent 5 days in Paris in May 2001 in the Left Bank Rue Cler neighbourhood (recommended by Rick Steves). I couldn't get a room in any of his first choice of hotel recommendations when booking 3-4 months in advance and so I ended up staying in Hotel Royal Phare. It suited me nicely (although they didn't have my booking when I arrived!) The location is phenomenal - just around the corner you can buy picnic goods in Rue Cler to go and eat by the Eiffel Tower which is only a very short walk away. The hotel is almost on top of one of the entrances to Ecole Militaire metro stop, and is also next to a little supermarket. Alas, while I eat copious pastries, I don't drink coffee so I can't recommend any cafes. :) Megan Brisbane, Australia
