Subject: Re: Best budget destinations?
Hi Ziners,

I vote for Egypt! Very secure, friendly people, the tourist attractions are spectacular, guides well-trained & knowledgeable, food plentiful, tasty & cheap. My niece & I took a 10 day hosted tour....means we were met & transferred from airport to hotel, had private guides for all our sightseeing, 6 nts hotels (Cairo & Hurghada), 3 night Nile cruise, 1 night sleeper train, some meals including always breakfast, flight from Aswan to Abu Simbel (not to be missed)...all for about $550 per person! When we paid for meals, it was $3 or 4 for a full meal including a drink. We plan to go again next year & cruise on Lake Nasser. It was an awesome, budget destination!

Another wonderful budget destination is the island of Crete. A couple years ago I flew into Iraklion from Koln, DE (non-stop), drove to the little village of Sitia, had a studio apartment overlooking the water for about $25 a night. Fresh seafood in the tavernas was terrific & inexpensive. Scenery was great, weather in May was temperate, & no other tourists.
