Hi,
I was in Antigua, Guatemala two years ago. We stayed in La posada del Angel, which was charming, great service, very helpful and friendly. Five rooms only and even President Clinton stayed there. I felt safe in Antigua, however at night coming back to the Posada always took a taxi. There is a taxi station in the Main Plaza also restaurants and hotels will call one for you. There is a flat rate always the same inside the limits of this little town. It was very little like a couple of dollars. We enjoyed and I highly recommend Cafe Mediterraneo, this is a very pleasant small restaurant, the food is fresh, simple but delicious. The owner is from Florence , this place is always full and lively. The name of the owner is Francesco and if you like, tell him I recommended it to you. I was sent to Antigua by Travel+ Leisure in Spanish to write about Antigua Restaurants and tried them all. I would recommend la Fonda de la Calle Real, ( they have three different locals all in down town) this is typical Guatemalan food and it is very good. Also for fun, music and good margaritas: Frida. At night many restaurants have an enchanted atmosphere with lots of candles, flowers and gardens. I particularly liked the ambiance at Sarandib and at Panza Verde, and the sunsets at El Sereno, The most lovely hotel is the in an old Dominican Monastery , however the food there was nothing special. Have fun. Graziella in Miami Beach |
