I love Charleston and highly recommend a daytrip there. I would go to the Market and take a carriage tour which will give you a basis to explore on. The spiels are usually canned and not that funny, but you see the houses at the level the builders did. And that is Charleston's great attraction-you can be in many of its neighborhoods and several centuries ago seems rather close.

I would recommend seeing the gardens and remaining plantation house wing at Middleton Plantation just outside of Charleston.
I have never seen it, but the aquarium is supposed to be quite an attraction.
