|Subject: Re: Siena and environs|
I hadn't posted because my parents haven't been to Siena yet (they'll be there in April) but thought I could at least tell you what I found out. Criteria: my parents were hoping for something no more than 100 Euro for the night, and were trying to stay as close to the Campo as possible. We tried as best as we could to research for comments on tripadvisor.
They are only staying in Siena for 1 night before picking up their hire car and then staying 5 days at an agriturismo near Pienza. We had a lot of trouble finding a place in Siena that would take a booking for a single night - I think you mentioned that you would be staying 2 nights so then that would not be a problem for you. (And this was enquiring in January for an April booking.)
As Frances said, Albergo Bernini is recommended by Rick Steves and they were booked out for the night we wanted (granted, it was Easter Monday!) They were by far our first choice had they been available.
We emailed them back for any alternative recommendations and Alessandro suggested:
Albergo Alma Domus PHONE: 0577-44177 FAX: 0577-47601 We faxed them but never received a response and I found a travelogue comment on a web site somewhere where a person said they first tried phoning only to be told to fax back and then had great difficulty getting any response to their fax and in the end found out they would not accept a booking for 1 night! This is the convent style accommodation.
Alessandro then gave us another recommendation (Palazzo Bruchi B&B) Sig.ra Masignani in Via di Pantaneto no.105 5 minutes from the Piazza del Campo with e-mail address firstname.lastname@example.org http://www.ilgiardino-masignani.it They also did not accept bookings for 1 night although I believe that was specifically at Easter time.
Then we tried PICCOLO HOTEL ETRURIA Via delle Donzelle, 3 53100 Siena - ITALIA Tel. +39 0577 288088 Fax. +39 0577 288461 http://www.hoteletruria.com But they were booked out.
We ended up booking with Hotel Duomo for 1 night (Euro 130 for a double). http://www.hotelduomo.it/indexi.htm They replied to our emails very promptly.
Hope this might be of some help. :) Megan Brisbane, Australia
