|Subject: Re: Naive tourists|
This is the other side of the coin of naive tourists, Some ten years ago while we owned the Hotel Lafayette in South Beach, the buffet breakfast was included in the rate, basically it consisted of lots of tropical fruits, croissants, bagettes, home made cakes, cheeses etc all displayed in baskets and Italian ceramics in a table with a big center of fresh flowers. A Japanese young couple not staying in the hotel, had a look at the table and in poor English asked me how much was it. Taken but surprise because the buffet was only for guests I told them the first thing that came into my mind, which was only $7 dollars. The smile disappeared from their faces and they told me something like they could not afford it. Realizing that they had understood $70 instead of $7!! I tried to explain but they looked very embarrassed and left in a hurry.
