Subject: Re: Vienna stop-over
John With a few hours to spend, you can easily walk around the core of Vienna, admire the architecture, sit in a cafe and sip Viennese coffee or you could visit an entirely different type of museum - the KunstHaus Wien. Before you walk through the doors, you will find yourself in an intriguing environment. The building is crooked from our view and the first floor mimics nature (wiggly floors). The house contains a permanent Hundertwasser exhibition (Hundertwasser was born in Vienna in 1928 and died in 2000) and temporary exhibitions of avant-garde and modern artists. It is a fascinating gallery. When we visited in 1994, the gallery had a Robert Mappplethorpe exhibition (which was subsequently the target of censors in the U.S.). A visit to the museum will also get you into one of the residential neighbourhoods of Vienna. The museum location is KunstHaus Wien Weissgerberstrasse 13, A-1030 Vienna. It's a few blocks from the subway, I'm just not sure which one. I guarantee you'll enjoy it. Lucy, Toronto
