Subject: Apartments vs. Hotels
Greetings!

I find that I generally like staying in small hotels with character.

However, a few years ago I took my 17 year old son to Barcelona for a week. I couldn't afford two hotel rooms and was concerned that if we stayed together in one room, we wouldn't be speaking to each other by the end of the trip.

Through the Internet, I hooked up with Charlie Williams who has lived in Barcelona for years and lists apartments in Barcelona as well as properties in rural Catalonia. He also lists a number of B& Bs and a few hotels. I arranged to rent what is referred to as a no frills one bedroom apartment at El Sauc. It was about 70 Euros/day and absolutely perfect for the two of us. It's in a quiet working class neighborhood near Montjuic and is a 15 minute walk to the Rambla. There is a bakery, a small supermarket, and a very nice little restaurant on the street.
