|Subject: Re: Tour Guide & Tips for St. Petersburg?|
We were in St. Petersburg for 5 days last March. We rented an apartment through a tour guide on the internet for 90USD/night.( http://www.travelinrussia.com/ ) It was in an old building but was brand new with a beautiful bath, heated tile floors (nice in March) and stainless steel appliances (including a washer/dryer combo). It was on the Moika River Embankment just around the corner from the Hermitage (Winter Palace), and within walking distance of many other places you would want to visit. We walked everywhere in the city, but through Dimitri we had a private driver and guide to drive to the Summer Palaces in Pushkin and Pavlosk which are about 30 km from the city. They are gorgeous ( the Amber Room is fabulous) and we also saw some of the countryside. A couple of memorable meals were at the Demidov Restaurant ( smoked venison, sturgeon, salmon and pike soup; music and dancing by a gypsy group) and the Magrib Restaurant which has an Iranian ambiance and very good food. If you have any specific questions, I will be happy to try and answer them.
