You will have a great time in New Orleans. Among the highlights I would recomnend. 1. Stroll along Royal Street and nip into the art and antique shops. 2. Walk along the river park and visit the aquarium. 3. Take the Charles Street streetcar to the Audubon Zoo and return to the Riverwalk area via boat. 4. Visit the Louisiana State museum in the restored state house on Jackson Square. There's also a Mardi Gras museum next door. 5. Bourbon Street is, of course, a must-see though most of the music you'll hear these days is rock and country, rather than jazz. 6. Take a cooking class at Cookin' Cajun in the Riverwalk. The morning class is the best bet because you eat the meal for your lunch and it costs less than $20.00.
Tip: Drop into any of the souvenir/New Orleans cooking shops in the Riverwalk Centre and ask for a discount coupon book. They're free and you'll be able to save money on things to see and do, such as the combined Zoo/boat/Aquarium entry fee. Enjoy.
