|Subject: Re: the Road to Hana and hotels for an overnight|
Most people treat the road to Hana as a minimum half-day experience-- many have been known to stretch it to an entire day's adventure. It just depends on your road trip personality. There are so many delightful things to see and do along the way. Maui Revealed by Andrew Doughty and Harriett Friedman is my favorite Maui resource. Your library probably stocks it. The best tip is to follow a mile-by-mile guide either on tape cassette or on paper and then to take every rabbit trail you desire to pursue as you make the journey. Heed the advice to gas up the tank and stock up on water and picnic goodies--Hawaiian-fresh pineapple & Maui potato chips are a must!
Guide books can help you with hotel/B& B selection. Also, have you checked the online B& B registries? Finally, http://www.tripadvisor.com is invaluable for obtaining current lodging reviews from fellow travelers.
