Checking with the hotel itself is definitly recommended. I have read that some hotel chains are getting tired of seeing their rooms going for bargain basement prices and having to pay a commission on top of that. They are fighting back and trying to get people to reserve directly with them. I believe that Marriott now guarantees that if you find a lower price on an Internet service for the same room and rate, they will honor the lower rate.
