I think that Italy would be the perfect choice for your honeymoon and since you're travelling off-peak, you should be able to keep costs down.

Though not near the Mediterranean, Tuscany is a wonderful idea. Call the airlines and get a package that includes air and hotels. You could go to Rome, Florence and Tuscany. For Tuscany, select one of the towns - Siena for instance, and then visit another town daily. It's a lovely way to see the beauty of the area. Fly into Rome and then home from Florence.

Italy is a wonderful choice for a honeymoon. It's romantic and filled with great people and wonderful food at all price levels.
