Subject: Re: Hotel in Savannah Georgia
Hi Mary; If you can arrange transportation to Savannah it is most definitely worth the effort, even for a day. We did this when we stayed on Hilton Head in the fall and are already planning to go back and spend more time. It's a gorgeous city to explore and a day is a lovely sampler, but that short a visit just doesn't do it justice. The next time we will stay at least two nights and have more time to do more exploring -- either guided or independent.

For a short visit, I would recommend the Grayline Tour (trolley III on their website I believe)

This allowed us free parking at the main depot -- just over the bridge coming in from Hilton Head, with on and off privileges all day at up to 14 stops plus a choice of Telfair Museum of Art, Andrew Low House, Davenport House or Juliette Gordon Low House. There is narration between all stops.

Savannah is such a seductive city -- enjoy!

Before you go to Savannah, do read or reread Berendt's Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, then view the movie if you can find a copy. It will make your visit and walking tours just a bit more interesting.

This is an interesting site with a little background
