If you can arrange transportation to Savannah it is most definitely
the effort, even for a day. We did this when we stayed on Hilton
Head in the
fall and are already planning to go back and spend more time.
gorgeous city to explore and a day is a lovely sampler, but
that short a
visit just doesn't do it justice. The next time we will stay
at least two
nights and have more time to do more exploring -- either guided
For a short visit, I would recommend the Grayline Tour (trolley III on their website I believe) http://tinyurl.com/ype6b
This allowed us free parking at the main depot -- just over the bridge coming in from Hilton Head, with on and off privileges all day at up to 14 stops plus a choice of Telfair Museum of Art, Andrew Low House, Davenport House or Juliette Gordon Low House. There is narration between all stops.
Savannah is such a seductive city -- enjoy!
Before you go to Savannah, do read or reread Berendt's Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, then view the movie if you can find a copy. It will make your visit and walking tours just a bit more interesting.
