|Subject: Re: Barcelona Hotels, Restaurants and Sights|
We just returned from Spain and loved Barcelona. We were on business and therefore stayed at the lovely, but expensive, Avenida Palace, so I can't be much help with hotels.
As for sights, a whole day can be spent visiting the Cathedral and the Gothic Quarter. Medieval streets, delightful squares, interesting small shops and cafes can provide a day of interesting experiences.
Barcelona also has wonderful architecture ranging from the medieval to art deco to modern. The work of Antonio Gaudi is not to be missed. His distinctive apartment buildings are fascinating and the Park Guell is a delight. Be sure to see his still unfinished work, the Sagrada Familia.
As for restaurants - we enjoyed tapas for most lunches. We particularly enjoy Lizzaran, a fun spot that is part of a chain of tapas restaurants. If you enjoy fine dining you must go to Mey Hoffmann (Argenteria 74-78 by Santa Maria del Mar) open Monday through Thursday only. We rank this restaurant in the top 10 anywhere during more than 30 years of travel and dining! We also enjoy El Tragaluz (passatge de la Concepcin #195) and its sister restaurant, Principal.
Have a wonderful time, Winnie Alexandria
