One area that may be of interest is the Dordogne area of France, that is where Cro-Magnon man was first discovered - The town of Les Ezyze (not sure of spelling) - there are many caves in that area to visit as well - e.g., Lascalle.

As well, all along the Dordogne river the castles which are remnants of the 100 year war between France and England.
