Subject: Re: Tuscany itinerary
Maria, Your itineraries are ambitious. Both can be done, but you will be spending a lot of time in your car. I would suggest a direct drive from Florence to Cortona for an overnight stay and then head north to Siena and the Cinque Terre region in a more leisurely manner visiting Montepulciano, Montalcino, etc. along the way.

I would skip Viareggio (it's not terribly attractive from our experience) and stay in Lucca instead, before you head to Cinque Terre. Again, based on our most recent trip to Italy, three nights in Cinque Terre is all you will need. Use the extra night in Tuscany.

Happy planning. Lucy, Toronto
