Greetings,
I grew up on the Monterey Peninsula, it's beautiful and I'm sure you'll have a great time. The drive down to San Simeon is exquisite. I would suggest picking up picnic food before the drive and stopping along the way either in Point Lobos (just south of Carmel on Hwy 1) or in Big Sur. There is a Whole Foods market in Del Monte Center in Monterey that has a great deli. If you don't want to hassle with a picnic, there are 2 restraunts along the drive with amazing views. Rocky Point (amazing views, OK food) and Nepenthe (both views and food are great, but a bit spendy). Nepenthe is farther south of Rocky Point and also has a shop full of funky jewelrey, wind chimes, and other Big Sur art. My favorite place for breakfast in Monterey is First Awakenings on Cannery Row in the Tin Cannery outlet center. It has nice outdoor seating, and excellent food. It's right near the walking/biking trail that is along the water. Beautiful area! You should definately hit Lovers Point in Pacific Grove, even if it's just to take a scenic drive. Hope that helps a little bit! If you have any questions about the Monterey/Carmel area, ask away! Have fun! Ellie |
