The whole of the Spanish Mediterranean coast has wonderful places to see. It is one of the trips that is best done by car so as to enjoy it best.
On your trip you should take a "detour" and go to Ronda and the Pueblos Blancos. It is a great area to see, charming, with dramatic sights, beautiful towns and great scenery. From the coast it is only a few hours to Ronda. It has good hotels and from there you can go to the other smaller towns.
In Ronda we stayed at the Parador de Ronda , one of the Paradores de España. I am a great fan of these hotels, have stayed in them throughout the country and the one in Ronda is worth the trip just by itself. Our room had the most fantastic view of the river gorge.
Another place which makes a "detour" more than worthwhile is The Alhambra, one of the architectural jewels of the world. However, you would need a whole day just for The Alhambra itself.
If you want to see one of the great spots of the very rich and famous, stop at Puerto Banús. The yachts anchored there are unbelievable. I like it much more than the more famous Marbella which has become so large that it has lost its charm, except fot the old town which is still charming.
Gibraltar is not very interesting but the monkey´s (Churchill´s monkeys!!!) at the very top of The Rock, are great. And of course, the view is worth the trip. One sees all the way to Africa.
Have a great trip.
