OK, so the meflaquin will give you technicolor waking nightmares that take your breath away. OK, you still have to be vigilant about mozzie bites even with the prophylaxis. But the alternative (full-on malaria) is a heck of lot worse.
I opted for no prophylaxis on my recent trip to Guatemala since we were at almost 7000 feet & it was the end of the dry season, but that was a manageable risk, I felt. But Ghana, even in a city? Nope, not me.
