Subject: Re: Summer vacation? Scotland!
Paolo, I can't speak to the "lot of people" issue for mid-July as we've been in Scotland once in June and twice in September. No problems with crowds then. Fort William is a good base. From there you can do day trips to Oban, Mull, and Iona; Glencoe and surrounding area; the West Highland Line route to Mallaig via the Glenfinnian Viaduct; Loch Ness and Inverness. There is a lot to see on the Isle of Skye and you can visit Lewis and Harris Islands from there. We stayed in Portree. (I don't recall if ferry schedules would work for those as day trips or not.) If you want to venture further north, Orkney has many beautiful and fascinating sights. Angie-in very green Kansas
