I'll add to Frances' post. Halifax is a charming city and, if you
have the time, a gateway to the beauty of the Maritime provinces.
If you hear an "odd to your ear" sounding language while in Halifax, it's not the distinctive maritime dialect of Canadian English. It's more likely Icelandic. There is a regular service between Reykjavik and Halifax for Icelandic shoppers. Apparently there are some "real deals" in shopping to be had. Lucy, Toronto
