|Subject: Re: Hotel in Nice, France|
We were in Nice for a brief visit (2 nights) in May, using it as our base to attend the Formula One Grand Prix practice in Monaco.
We liked this hotel - Relais Mercure Marché Aux Fleurs, which is next to the Opera, looking out onto the beach and lovely blue-green water. The Cours Saleya was steps away, with the flower market by day and festive restaurants in the evening. We asked for a sea-view room with a balcony. The rooms are not luxurious by any means, but ours was fine. If you want a quieter room, don't ask for a sea view, because the promenade in front gets pretty festive. We didn't mind, and we always take our portable noisemaker.
As a plus, you recieve a discount at the Opera Plage - private beach.
Our weekday night was 106 Euros and the weekend night was 165 Euros, booked through Placestostay.com. Check around for better prices, though. The Cannes Film Festival and the Grand Prix were going on at the time so the prices might have reflected that. I'm looking forward to going back and spending more time.
