Kathmandu is not a good place to visit right now. The US State Department has posted a travel warning. The New York Times on June 14 reported that the Maoist rebels had blown up two police trucks, killing 22 and wounding 17 policeman. The paper said the rebels have brought Nepal "to the brink of anarchy."
I am glad I went there in November when things were relatively quiet. However, I am concerned about the safety of my guide and his extended family. His last e-mail in early June stated that there was now no tourism in Nepal and no law and order.
I think you should postpone plans for Nepal until the political situation stabilizes.
Enjoy your trips to other great places you were contemplating.
