Hi Candice and Ziners

Try York. Its a significant town historically, quite compact (old town anyway), has some fascinating lanes and alleys, and to make it perfect, is a PIG of a place to drive and park. ergo - you will not need to rent a car (nor will you want to). From memory its on the LNER (nowdays called Great North Eastern) - website http://www.gner.co.uk where you will find that tickets are much cheaper if purchased in advance, for off-peak days & times. Should be less than two hours by train.

Otherwise, anywhere you haven't been before - except Scunthorpe. Paul in rainy Sydney (we need much more)
