Dear Carrie, and fellow 'ziners,
At the hotel restaurant in Chadron, Nebraska, a few years ago, I noticed 'fried oysters' on the menu, and ordered them.
When the waitress explained that of course these particular oysters had never seen the ocean, I admitted that I had guessed that, and wanted to try them anyway. I had grown up on the Chesapeake bay, and had eaten (real) oysters, and have loved them all my life.
To my surprise, the 'mountain' oysters in Chadron tasted remarkably like the fried oysters I had known in my youth.
And they were delicious.
Ferd in Seattle (where the oysters are the best in the world!)
