The only suggestion I can make is to call Customer Service at BA and ask their help in solving the problem. As was suggested, probably better to talk with a supervisor. But if you approach it with the attitude that BA will obviously want to assist people in such dire straits you might find someone either willing to modify the rules or able to find another policy that would be applicable. They might have to take a chance with Standby, but that's better than nothing.
