Try the Edison Hotel in West 47th Street in the theatre district. It's a good "tourist" hotel. Not too pricey, pleasant rooms.
You can also try thirty/thirty. It's been recently renovated. They're on East 30th Street between Lexington and Park Ave. The area is a bit non-descript - it's called Little India and borders on the Flatiron and Gramercy Districts.
The Paramount and the Hudson are both very trendy and moderately priced. However, the rooms are tiny....though pretty. Very Phillipe Starck.
