The most common place to park a car if going to Venice is at Piazzale Roma on the Venice end of the causeway, the one place you can drive in Venice proper. There are garages there, but it can be crowded and chaotic. Taking the train from Padua or farther is another possibility, but an alternative place to park is Fusina, described at http://www.terminalfusina.it/parking-e.html That lets you go into Venice by boat, which is appealing. Depending on how long you're staying in Venice, you might think of just returning the rental car in Venice (there are offices at Piazzale Roma) and starting a new rental at the end of your stay if you need another rental (consider whether trains can meet your needs). If you book through Auto Europe, there shouldn't be any drop-off charges for a one-way rental.
