I usually use the Rule of 5 or more to determine if I should buy a pass or not. Generally if I am going to take 5 long train trips, a pass may be the best way to go. You are right on the line so more analysis is requires. Your five trips will cost $332 in first class and $227 in second class, right in between the $289 for the pass. Since you are traveling in Italy some of the time, train costs are low. I would just buy the tickets as you go. In November it will not be hard to get on the trains. Have a good trip.
