You should plan your own visit to Achill, one of the most beautiful places in Ireland. Coming from Galway, you can stop in Westport, a charming town, also known for the always-lively Matt Malloy's pub. Just past Newport (home of both my parents), on the road to Achill, you would be able to visit Burrishoule Abbey from 1459; and one of the castles of Grace O'Malley, the pirate queen.
The old cemetery at Burrishoule is a beautiful, peaceful spot, and the abbey ruins are well worth a visit. Unless there is a funeral, you'll probably be the only one there.
