Subject: ohashi and hashi (was : Japan?) |
Hi, Debbie and Ziners,
According to my sister-in-law, in Japanese language, adding an "o" sound in front of some noun is a more respectful way of saying that noun. Thus ohashi is a more polite way of saying hashi, and is often used by women. Men seldem say ohashi, they say hashi. Similarly, bento and obento both mean Japanese box lunch.
