Subject: Re: dvds viewed on laptops while travelling
Hello in a dubious effort to prevent piracy, all the dvd players (including those inside the computers) and the dvd discs are zone-coded. USA is zone 1, Europe is zone 2, Asia is a different one. This means you can see a dvd only on a device sold in the same zone. On the Internet there are sites dedicated to that: it's possible, via a firmware (the software inside the reader) update, to delete the coding, but the operation is tricky and sometimes it doesn't work (for me it worked 1 out of two). Some players have the option of changing the zone for a fixed amout of times, after that you'r stuck with the last setting. There are few region-free discs, mostly the x-rated ones. Bye Paolo
